"I hate Twifags!" "I hate Narutards!" "I hate the fanbase of [INSERT SUBJECT HERE]!! They just RUIN the whole show/anime/game/movie for me!"
Anyone else getting a little tired of hearing this all the time? I know I am.
I didn't notice a lot of brony hate until recently. It must be because of how popular MLP is getting, and how much the fanbase is growing. And this is a subject that has always irked me. What in the hell gives anyone the right to tell someone else that what they like sucks? Who actually feels that entitled, and that righteous to presume that just because they dislike something, it's automatically awful? I don't care HOW much I dislike something, I would never flame it. Especially to specifically taunt those who DO like it.
The MLP:FiM fanbase is actually one of the things I love about the fandom. I can honestly say that I've never been a part of something this monumental, passionate and awesome. But of course there are going to be people that are rude, or people that over-do it. How does that reflect the entire fanbase? I seriously don't understand how these people think. It's no better than saying, "I had a bad experience with a black man once, so I hate black people!" Am I wrong?
There's something I hear all the time, even among some of my friends: "It's just so over-rated, I hate it. No, I haven't actually seen it, but I know I won't like it. It's too popular." What you're basically saying when you say something like that, is that society has made up your mind for you, and you don't want to be bothered to think for yourself. The last time I did that, I was 14 years old. I judged and mocked a friend of mine for liking something I had never read myself, and then a few months later, I ended up reading it and LOVING it. I vowed then and there to give everything a chance before making a judgement, and even after deciding I didn't like something, I promised myself to never flame anyone else for being a fan. I mean, who the hell did I think I was? I DO NOT speak for the entire world. If you like something, I will respect that. Like a damn adult.
In other words, if you're saying you hate something because of the fanbase or it's popularity, you're not only ignorant, but you're not thinking for yourself. You're basing your opinion on the fact that it's popular, not if it's something you could truly enjoy. And if you've given it a shot and STILL don't like it, but you decide to flame others for liking it? Then that just makes you a conceited dickwad. Either way, those people can promptly die in a goddamn fire.
I'm a proud brony, and I'm constantly in awe of the power and passion of the MLP fanbase. LONG LIVE CELESTIA.
Okay, please hear me out on this one.
And while I can definitely say that I am a "hater" of the community, I need to add that I thorougly go through the subject matter of things before I vent my anger against something and I have seen the show - meaning that I have seen enough of the series to know what it's about and have talked to the fans both via simple chats as well as conversations in person. Thus, I would like you to refrain from assuming that everyone who hates it does so without a reason.
Same goes for the comparison about black people - you are assuming that the people who hate it have only encountered a small amount of the fans, but that's often not true. Of course, every fanbase has people that are annoying and some that are nice people. I have met both kinds, but the amount of people just taking it way too far - especially the mostly male fanbase which stems from 4chan - I just find that revolting, as well as disturbing; and these people make up the majority of said community.
What people want is, quite frankly, a less obnoxious fanbase. I do not want forums to drift off into the topic of MLP as soon as someone mentions it at the side and I do not want people putting "LONG LIVE CELESTIA" or any of the such where it doesn't belong; having it in texts like this is fine and dandy, but you don't want me to derail to something I like with every. Flipping. Post.
tl;dr I would not mind the people watching the show if they stayed to themselves about it. There are a great many odd groups that barely get any hate for the simple reason that they don't annoy you about it, COMPLETELY out of context. And maybe for the fact that they aren't from 4chan, which most may call the greatest toilet of the Internet.
Long story short: MLP: FiM is like food; I enjoy it as long as it's not being cramed down my throat by someone else
this is it! The journal that says it all.
People are forgetting that you can't judge a person by it's opinion or likes
and the thing with the "urrghhh this show is BAAAD because it's popular" my counterargument is that I would watch the show even if it wouldn't have that much attention.
After all we've got to F*cking care, you've got to F*cking share!

It's called opinions. You can either agree or disagree. Just like you voicing yours with this writing. People are going to do it, whether you like it or not. My friends tried to shove MLP onto me, and I do mean literally forced me to sit down and watch a few episodes. Didn't work. But hell, they are my friends. I've forgiven them for wasting my time.
I'm not discouraging anyone from having opinions, I'm not sure where you go that from.
